Effective Strategies for Multiplication & Properties...

Commutative Property = the order of factors does not change the product.
So 3 x 4 = 4 x 3 will both equal  the product of 12!

Associative Property = the factors can be grouped in different ways and still create the same product.
(7 x 2) x 5 = (2 x 5) x 7 will both equal the product of 70!

The biggest KEY is for kids to learn their basic Multiplication Facts with good Fluency then they can start applying these cool Strategies....


PARTIAL PRODUCTS Strategy:

   180.......60 x 3 =    180
   900.....300 x 3 =    900

BREAKING UP NUMBERS Strategy:
           12 x 30 = ______

(10 x 30) +  (2 x 30) =

         300 + 60 = 360
